On 22th July, in the Kotor Bay, in the town of Perast, Fashinada will be held. This year the holiday will be held for the 565th time.
According to legend, not far from the city, on a cliff in the sea, two brothers-sailors found the icon of the Mother of God, and one of them was soon healed of the disease, and in gratitude for this it was decided to erect an Orthodox church on the cliff. On this day in 1452, the first stone was laid in the base of the island of Gospe od Škrpjela, located opposite the city of Perast. Every year the inhabitants of Perast sail to the island on their boats and throw stones into the sea to strengthen the island.
Every year, with the sunset, the bells of the Orthodox Church begin ringing, and a procession of boats laden with stones and palm branches sails solemnly from the shore to the Church of the Mother of God. Only local residents take part in the ceremony - descendants of sailors and famous families of the city.
During the holiday you can observe on the shore in Perast or sail by boat to the island of Gospe od škrpjela.
