.Badney Day or Badney's Evening
(Serb. Badnji dan) is an Old Slavic rite that takes place every year on Christmas Eve and represents the burning of branches and logs on a fireplace or in a fire. The Southern Slavs called such logs Badnyak
(Serb Badnjak or Veseljak, Bolg.Badnik, Macedonian Badnak), in honor of which this holiday was named. As a rule, in Montenegro, local residents cut down Badnyak from oak.For the first time the celebration of Badny day was held in Dubrovnik in the 13th century
. Until now, Badny day is celebrated every winter in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Macedonia, parts of Croatia and Slovenia.
