On 6 January, on the eve of Christ's birth in Cetinje, which is the holy place of Montenegro, there will be an ancient rite called Badnyi Day.

Badney Day or Badney's Evening (Serb. Badnji dan) is an Old Slavic rite that takes place every year on Christmas Eve and represents the burning of branches and logs on a fireplace or in a fire. The Southern Slavs called such logs Badnyak (Serb Badnjak or Veseljak, Bolg.Badnik, Macedonian Badnak), in honor of which this holiday was named. As a rule, in Montenegro, local residents cut down Badnyak from oak.

For the first time the celebration of Badny day was held in Dubrovnik in the 13th century. Until now, Badny day is celebrated every winter in Serbia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria and Macedonia, parts of Croatia and Slovenia.
