On January 19, 2019 (Saturday) in the popular resort town of Budva (Montenegro) will be held traditional Epiphany swimming in the open Adriatic Sea behind the Epiphany or "honest" cross.
Every year, the Serbian Orthodox Church, the municipality of Budva and the Holy Trinity Church, which is located in the Old Town of Budva, organize the swims of the Epiphany Cross in the Bay of Budva, thus Montenegro celebrates the great Christian holiday of Epiphany.
According to the tradition, after solemn liturgies and water consecration, for the performance of the baptismal rite, Orthodox Serbs of Montenegro, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and other countries of the Balkan Peninsula competed among themselves who faster in open icy water will reach the boat or the opposite shore, where the priest lowers on the surface of the water wooden Epiphany cross. It is worth noting that the person who first reached the Epiphany Cross, becomes the winner and enters the history of the Epiphany swims, as well as the long-term list of winners of the place where the swim was held.
