Cathedral of Saint Tryphon
Kotor (Old town)
More
The Cathedral of Saint Tryphon (Katedrala Svetog Trifuna) in the Old Town of Kotor is a cathedral of the Catholic Diocese of Kotor, built in 1166. Of course, the Cathedral is not quite what it was in the 12th century, as it suffered during the devastating earthquakes in 1667 and 1997, but it still looks grand and impressive. Cathedral is located in the eponymous square in the southern part of Old Kotor and it is a main attraction of this town. St. Tryphon cathedral, despite numerous reconstructions, is an outstanding example of Romanesque architecture. Currently, he is taken into custody by UNESCO and is part of the World Heritage site "Natural and Cultural-Historical Region of Kotor". It is one of two Catholic cathedrals in Montenegro, along with the cathedral "of the Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary", located in the town of Bar. The building of the cathedral was consecrated on July 19,1166 (building began in 1124) in the name of St. Tryphon, who is considered to be a saint patron of Kotor. Many trials have fallen to the lot of the building; one of the most difficult moments in the history of the temple was a catastrophic earthquake in 1667. It resulted the destruction of the building, so that both bell towers...

At present, it is the political and cultural center of the country. Cetinje Monastery survived many events, which turned out to be more or less sign and turning in the fate of Montenegro. On the territory of the monastery the first Montenegrin printing house worked, published in 1493 the first book in the South Slavonic language in Cyrillic script – Octoechos (it can be found in the monastery museum). Further, other books followed: "Octoechos piatiglasnik",...

The sun falls asleep there Where one can see the most beautiful sunset There are many places in Montenegro one should visit at sunset. Let's tell about one of them. A few minutes by car from Kotor, there is superb with a nice name Dobrota. There is St. Eustahije's church of the 18th century. You will notice its high belfry from a distance. Leave your car in a parking lot near the church and go down along the fence off bushy pink hollyhock, straight to a small pier. At sunset, here is an unrealistically beautiful view. It seems that this piece of Boka-Kotor bay completely vanishes in a shady purple haze. And colors, such beautiful colors! If to come here earlier, have a chance to visit the church. There is a lot of interesting inside. For example, septicoloured marble altar, huge mosaic pannel and the main treasury of the collection is lace of 17-18 centuries. Montenegrin craftswomen had been making this lace while long months and years waiting for their husbands-sailors.

Church of Sv. Mikhail
Kotor (Old town)
More
The earliest references about the church date back to 1166. It's exactly the period when the Cathedral church was hallowed at the presence of the abbot St. Michael of Kotor, Petar, and so was the time the church was a constituent part of the abbacy. Unfortunately, the church has not preserved its original look. The present church is a small building with one nave, half-round apse topped by ogive, which looks more impressive thanks to arches reinforcing it. According to all indications the construction of this building was started at the end of 14th century - beginning of 15thcentury. Earlier there were bas-reliefs outside of the building containing inscriptions and various images, which eventually were substituted by replicas to insure long life for the originals inside of the church.

Church of the Holy Trinity
Budva (Old town)
More
The Holy Trinity Church is one of the most beautiful and interesting cultural heritage of Montenegro. For spiritual enrichment, many Orthodox believers regularly come here not only from all over Montenegro, but also from a neighbor of the Balkan countries. Today, Budva is not only a popular and entertaining tourist city, but also a center of concentration of both branches of the Christian religion. Several shrines were built on the territory of the city at different times, the doors of which are still open to all believers. However, it is worth noting that the majority of the religious population of the city professes Orthodoxy, although the spiritual consciousness of Montenegrins has historically been subjected to Ottoman, Greek and Roman Catholic influence. It is interesting that it is this church of the Holy Trinity that is most often visited by Russian tourists in Budva. The Church of the Holy Trinity is located on Church Square in the heart of the Old Town of Budva near the Citadel (St. Mary's Fortress). It is located on Starogradskaja (church) square in the old part of the city, where all roads lead, so it is quite easy to find it. The current territory of the Old Town, located on the plain of a cape, some...

Convent Zdrebaonik located near the town of Danilovgrad, 17 km from the Ostrog monastery. The name of the monastery comes from the word "zdravie" that in the Slavic language means "Church estate, property." There are several versions of who founded the monastery - Prince Vukan of Zeta, son of Prince Stefan, king Milutin. But in any case, all converge in the opinion that the founder was someone from the representatives of the dynasty nemanjic, and that the Foundation of the monastery should be attributed to the 13th-14th centuries. In those days the monastery was metham (slave) of the monastery Moraca. The main temple, consecrated in honor of St. Michael the Archangel, erected in 1818 on the foundations of an ancient temple from the times of the nemanjic. In a series of medieval monasteries on Skadar Lake, Monastery Kom, tribal church of Crnojevic, has a special place.
