Food safety authority reported, that the citizens of Montenegro eat safe fruits and vegetables, so there is no reason to be afraid of different viruses of stomach, which are of current interest in recent years.
Administration of food inspection and safety have confirmed information, that each consignment is carefully controlled. Fruits and vegetables, placed on the market of Montenegro, are passed certain control. Control of domestic production is carried from farm to a point of sale, including verification of the land on which the product is grown. The register contains all fruit and vegetable producers who deliver products to the market. All sites are checked for the use of plant protection products - the use of pesticides in acceptable quantities, in accordance with the provisions of the food safety management. Also during the year, pesticide residues are monitored.
Nitrates in leafy vegetables are subjected to control, as well as other pollutants such as heavy metals, for example. When importing fruits and vegetables in Montenegro, warehouses and final destination are monitored as well. First of all, the necessary documentation of consignment of fruits and vegetables is checked out. On the basis of risk analysis and available information got from the EU rapid alert system for food products, the inspector may decide to take sampling and laboratory testing of fruit and vegetables which are imported.
In the first nine months, the 69 samples of cabbage, leeks, spinach, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, carrots, apples, peaches, nectarines, strawberries, grapes and lettuce have been taken to check for the presence of pesticide residues.
