From November 15 this year to April 1, 2020 in Montenegro it is required to use winter tires or winter chains (their use is prescribed by road signs and local rules). This means that Montenegrin drivers have time until Friday to replace summer tires with winter ones.
Although this was not necessary before, the bill on road safety, which is in Parliament and is awaiting adoption, provides that the tires on all vehicles must be winter, which means that drivers must be guided by new legislation.
With regard to changes in winter equipment, all passenger and freight vehicles, from November 15 to April 1, that is, when there is snow or ice on the road, must have winter tires with a minimum tread depth of 4 mm on all wheels. This means that drivers will no longer be able to drive in winter on roads where there is snow on summer tires with chains.
Due to the mandatory replacement of tires from summer to winter ones, these days in car dealerships and car services are very crowded.
In accordance with the Law on Road Traffic Safety in Montenegro, a fine from 50 to 150 euros is stipulated for a driver participating in traffic on a car without winter tires. A legal entity that allows its vehicle to participate in traffic without winter equipment will be fined between 300 and 2,000 euros.
