The origins of the holiday goes back to the 19th century - thanks to the Berlin Congress on July the 13th, 1878 Montenegro was proclaimed the 27th independent country in the world, on the same day popular uprising against the occupying forces of Hitler coalition in Montenegro in 1941 began.
State holiday status Statehood Day acquired in 2004. This is the main summer holiday, this day and the following are non-working.
In honor of the holiday before the walls of the Old Town on Square of the artists the most popular musicians and singers from Montenegro and the region will perform. Across the country the national dance competition is held, and fireworks illuminate the sky.
