On Saturday, 7 October, near the walls of the Old Town of Budva, there will be a celebration of the traditional
52nd Festival of Fish and Wine - "Dan Širuna".
Shirun is a fairly common species of mackerel, which inhabit the Adriatic Sea near the coast of Montenegro. On this day, all the local fishermen, catching the shirun, must absolutely free treat all comers with it. According to the ancient tradition, it is impossible to sell this fish during the holiday, otherwise it will no longer come to Montenegrin coasts and correspondingly fishermen will remain without work.
The festival starts at 4:30 pm at the bus station, from where the city orchestra accompanied by the majorettes and members of the carnival association "Feštađuni" will pass to the central square in front of the walls of the Old Town of Budva. Near the fortress walls, various tasting counters will be built, and the main celebration and various entertaining programs for adults and children will be held there.
All guests of the holiday, in addition to a variety of fish dishes, will be able to try different types of Montenegrin home wine.
