Every year,
about 50 million plastic bags are thrown into the wild nature of Montenegro, which accumulate in various places, forming unauthorized landfills along roads, as well as garbage dumps in forests, river beds, Montenegrin beaches and near resort towns on the Adriatic coast.
"We do not have accurate data on the number and type of plastic bags used in various industries in Montenegro.
Our study is based only on Eurostat statistics, namely: on average 125 plastic bags are used by one person per year, taking into account attention is that one-time packages are banned in several EU countries or are additionally taxed", - said representative of
Montenegrin non-profit organization.
Interpretated into the language of figures, this means that in Montenegro,
tourists and local residents each year use about 250 - 375 million plastic bags. Assuming that about 85 percent of plastic wastes are thrown away in strictly designated areas, they are collected and disposed of, then about 50 million plastic bags will be produced, which each year remain somewhere in the wild nature of Montenegro.
