Today, the Government of Montenegro has announced the receipt of the status of national project "Herceg Novi - European Capital of Culture 2021".
Chairman of the Honorary Committee is the President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović, and members of the committee are Tourism Minister Branimir Gvozdenovic, Minister of Culture Pavel Goranovich, Chairman of the municipality of Herceg Novi Natasha Acimovic, Rector of the University of Montenegro Radmila Voydovich and artist Dimitrije Popovic.
According to the General Director of the Ministry of Culture Alexander Dajkovic, the Government of Montenegro claimed that for the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021, since 2017 to 2022 the funds in the amount of 31% of the planned budget of the project for infrastructure development and 37% of planned budget of the project for the development of cultural programs in Herceg Novi and other partner cities will be allocated.
He also added that the candidacy of Herceg Novi is supported by the president of the country and other municipalities of Montenegro - Kotor, Tivat, Budva, Bar, Ulcinj, Cetinje and Podgorica. The project will be able to improve the image of the city and state, promote the development of culture, tourism, innovation, creative industries, and increase the number of work places.
An independent jury of the European
Commission at the first phase of applying to the project estimated it as "an interesting, innovative and realistic" and significant for town and the entire country.
After applying on the 9th of September, on the 30th of September, the experts of the European Commission will visit Herceg Novi and Kotor Bay.
Defense of the project is scheduled for the 13th of October in Brussels.
