The old railway tunnel, which is located in the municipality of Herceg Novi (Montenegro) and connects the settlements of Meline and Zelenika, will be reconstructed and will become pedestrian.

The cost of restoration and construction works in the Meline-Zelenika tunnel, according to the Head of the Herceg-Novi municipality, Stevan Katic, will amount to 21.7 thousand euros.

"During the reconstruction of the Meline-Zelenika tunnel, an asphalting of a road of about 600 m in length is planned, as well as street lighting, and all work must be completed within 15 days." The municipal housing company will carry out all electrical work (street lighting and lighting in the tunnel) on the amount of 13 thousand euros. The warranty period for work and fixed material - at least two years", - said the representative of the Municipality.

Recall that in October last year, Stevan Katich and other representatives of the municipality of Herceg Novi talked with the heads of local communities of Meline and Zelenika about the reconstruction of the railway tunnel that connects their villages and its turning into a pedestrian. During the conversation, it was decided that in the very near future work will begin on the creation of a pedestrian tunnel, which was once used by the train.

"Thus, the authorities of Herceg Novi will solve the problem of many pedestrians, especially taking into account the fact that in this part of the city there is no sidewalk along the Adriatic Highway," the Municipality said.
