Do not forget about desserts!
There is no way to hide from sweets in Montenegro: baker shops and sweet shops are attracting by aroma at every step. In a cafe, menu has been opening itself on the page with desserts. And in shops, by magic, you are always find yourself near shelves with cakes. Resistance is useless, so read, remember and try.
• Palačinke. It is a big thin pancake with different fillings. Life becomes brighter at times, when you see a plate with hot Palačinke in front of you, with melting ice-cream, chocolate paste and fluffy whipped cream shining white.There can be more usual fillings: honey, sour cream, fresh berries and fruits. Palačinke is made almost in every cafe, restaurant and often in street stands. So you can have a bite on the go.
• Kolači. This is a general name for different types of cookies and cakes. Of course, there are many of them: kolaches are similar to potato-cakes, butter biscuits with powdered sugar topping, sandwiched swirls, waffle cakes with fillings, nut cookies covered by honey similar to baklava. You can buy kolači in every bakery and supermarkets. For the first time, it is better to take assorted set, to try everything and to find the most delicious.
Every housewife in Montenegro should be able to bake kolači with her special receipt. That is why if you will be invited as a guest, probably you will try cookies.
• Krempita. It is pastry made from a bold hojaldre soaked with thick cream. It reminds well known "Napoleon" tart. Krempita is cooked in different confectioner shops and cafes. But not everywhere it has good taste. Before order, have a look at it on a window. Ideally, fresh krempita does not fall into pieces and does not crumb, it is ruddy, fluffy and juicy.
