The Canyon of the Cievna river

A small river Cievna has united all the beauty of numerous Montenegrin rivers - a deep canyon, high rocks, many steps and rifts in a fast-flowing water stream of the mountain river. The whole picture is completed with bunches of grapes, pomegranate and fig growing just on steep slopes of the canyon. The Cievna river is a classical embodiment of the beauty of Montenegrin rivers. The name of the river Cijevna originates from a word «cijev», which means "tube". It is because the lower stream of river-bed looks like a tube - water flows at a depth of 15m into a strait 1m wide. River-bed is of of karstic origin, takes its rise from Prokletije mountains and flows into the Moraca river. Most of the flat part of the river flows through Cemovsko field, the name of which has also originated from the river. The thing is "Cem» is Albanian name of Cievna. The river has a strongly marked mountain character, which results in a strong water level fluctuation depending season. During rainfall season and melting it is overfilled, bringing sand from the mountain peaks, and during the summer it dries much, but providing possibility for humidification of surrounding valleys used for grapes growing. Due to the close location to Podgorica, local people often come to the shore of the Cievna river. There are also a famous Niagara waterfall and Italian restaurant. The Canyon of the Cievna river is located between mountain massif of Prokletije and the valley Cemovsko field, in Pdgorica town-council, 5km from the capital.
