Canyon river Mrtvica

In the heart of Montenegro, in the central area of the country, there is another small river and another spectacular canyon — a canyon of river Mrtvica. Mrtvica flows into the river Morača in the village of Medjurječje. Canyons of these two rivers come together in one unit and their steep and high cliffs are a paradise not only for fans of canyoning, but also for climbers and even professional climbers. Medjurječje is situated on the 38th kilometer of the road Podgorica — Kolašin. Мртвица5 Mrtvica river originates from the mountain Sinjajevina. Flowing down ^the canyon to the mouth of the river Morača, it collects water of mountain brooks, streams, and is a great leash — the largest influx of Morača, with numerous cascades and waterfalls, small beaches. It flows between the mountains Sinjajevina and Maganik. Maximum height of the gorge is 1,100 meters and it's length is 8.5 km.

There is a stone bridge of Montenegrin Prince Danilo the Second on the river Mrtvica. It refers to the XIX century. Montenegrin prince built this bridge in honor of his mother, who was born in these area. One of the most beautiful and most interesting places in the canyon is the «Desires Gate». According to legend, the mountain fairy with Maganik grants your wishes in this place. To make your wish come true, you have to conceive a desire in apsolutly silence and throw a stone into the river. The desire must be clean and not to the detriment of the other, at the opposite, you invoke the wrath of fairy from Maganik.
