During this trip we will move to Bar Riviera - no less picturesque and sunny, the center of which is the largest port city of Montenegro - Bar. The southern part of the country represents the meeting of East and West, connection of Christian and Islamic Montenegro.
We’ll arrive into the modern part of town Bar. The city is literally riotous with gardens and lush Mediterranean vegetation. Here on the waterfront, we will visit the palace of King Nikola. And then we’ll get acquainted with the Old Bar, which is located on a cliff at the foot of the mountain Rumija. On the street leading to the Old Town, there are many traditional coffee, souvenir and antique shops. Surrounded from three sides by steep cliffs, riddled with history and turned into an open air museum, carefully keeping the evidence of the turbulent medieval youth, Old Bar boasts not only of the remnants of fortifications. There are still preserved in their original form narrow streets and buildings of cut stone, often the height of two floors and more. The ancient, survived to our days, monuments - the city gates and the Citadel, once a formidable fortification, now - picturesque ruins.
In the vicinity of Bar, there are too many attractions, not only historical and architectural but also natural. There are many olive groves, so this region is traditionally famous for its olive oil. We will see the oldest olive tree, which age is more than 2000 years! There is an ancient tradition to make up at this olive tree.
Then our way leads us to the city with a special oriental charm - Ulcinj. We will visit the old town, where in the past mighty rulers, pirates and slaves lived. It is well preserved and differ from other ancient settlements in Montenegro: a kind of medieval atmosphere reigns there. The fortress is located on a hill, so it offers a magnificent panorama of the coastal part of the city. We walk along the streets and after a cup of oriental coffee, we set off to the most extended sandy beach in Montenegro - "Velika Plaza", with a length of 13 km! It is possible to have lunch at a restaurant at the estuary of the river Bojana. You can also book a boat trip around the island of Ada Bojana, located both on the river and the sea. The way home.
Lifehack: unlike other cities in Montenegro, Ulcinj sometimes has hunting pickpockets, so be careful!
